Chapter 1 The radio

Every history has a beginning and our history start with a radio.
Grandmother, how have you built the hotel?
Once upon time, the war just stop and in Valtournenche we were extremely poverty and my father was still prisoner in Germany. I was a farmer and as second job I used to help in the hotels of Valtournenche. I loved to work in a hotel and I moved to Cervinia where there was more tourism. There, after a whole season work, with the first money that I earn and that my family didn’t need to survive I bought a radio. In my youth to have a radio was a precious object to connect you with the world. At that age in our village of Cretaz there was just one telephone and when your grandfather call me, by word of mouth throw the village till my pasture and I run to the telephone.

And you grandfather, how have you become a chef?
I born in a little village from the Venetian farmland in a big family with 7 brothers. We were farmers. When I was young to get a job I go to Cervinia and I begin like a porter and handyman in the most high hotel. When the guests arrived I take his bag on my head and I carried between meters of snow till the hotel. One day a man saw something good in me and he register me in a hotel school in Bardonecchia where I became a chef. When I finish the school I go in England to work in a big hotel where used to put my shirt under the mattress to iron it. After this experience I come back in Cervinia where I know your grandmother and a new history has begun, and continue now as well…

Chapiter 3 The fireplace

Grandparents, Why our hotel name is Caminetto?
At the beginning we thought to call it Central hotel, for his position in the center of village, but we didn’t like it. The fireplace was awesome with a big rock that was take with a lot of effort from grandfather and other men. To begin a story you must start with the first rock and without struggle you don’t go anywhere. Moreover the glass window of the bar with the fire that symbolize our love to this job was a true piece of art. From the waitress of staff to a valued waitress and from a porter to a chef: it has been a very hard road plenty of privation, but also with a lot of satisfaction to became owner of our own hotel. And it is very very nice to see some of our guests that continue to come and they, with us, have done the history, the history of our family.

Chapter 4 The history continue

Mother, when have you begin?
I was born in hotel and it is all my life. I have done this job always with a big love and when you do it with you heart, it end to be a job and it became a philosophy of life and you can overtake any adversity. When your grandparents decided to leave the hotel you had 2 years old and the hotel needed a renovation, so with your dad we have completely modernize. After, your dad start again to do the ski instructor and with your uncle Massimo we continued for many years till you arrive.

Chapter 5

And now?
I think we are like a tree. Our grandparents are the roots, they give birth to our tree and they grew it. My mother put her life in the tree and she is the trunk, the true soul. My uncle was the branches and they became full of greens leafs and I take his delivery and try to maintain the branches strong and luxuriant. My father and my brother are the water and the sun, fundamental component to grow well and strong to make the leafs shine. The leafs are are you: friends and guests that in these 50 years befriend us, support and gift us emotions and history of a life, the life of our tree, the life of our Caminetto.
